2008 Zeltsman Marimba Festival (July 6 - July 19)
The seventh edition of Zeltsman Marimba Festival, Inc. will be held in Los Angeles, California, co-sponsored by The Colburn School. Their extraordinary, newly expanded facilities are located in the heart of Los Angeles’ downtown “cultural necklace,” adjacent to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), across the street from The Walt Disney Concert Hall, and near the Los Angeles Music Center.
We anticipate more than 35 participants from around the world will attend this two-week intensive seminar to celebrate music through the medium of the marimba and its cousins, the vibraphone and the MalletKAT (an electronic mallet keyboard).
A series of eight concertsopen to the publicwill feature this year’s renowned faculty, special guests, and emerging marimba stars. They’ll perform music ranging from classical and contemporary to jazz, in solo and chamber music settings.
“The timbres and emotions they summoned from the marimbas linger in the mind.”
- Richard Dyer, The Boston Globe
“It’s so clear to me that the rest of my musical life will owe so much to these past two weeks and what I’ve learned, and every time I have another musical advancement I’ll want to thank you again.”
- Sam Naishtat, a ZMF ’07 participant
